Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state early analysis suggest the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for information.
A senior political figure commented the attack made him without words and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
